We made a deliberate choice to be 100% screen-free. Research consistently shows that handwriting improves memory and information retention more effectively than typing or tapping. When students write by hand, they process information more deeply. We also believe that most children already have significant screen time in their day — at school, at home, and in between. Tutoring shouldn't add more. Our paper-based approach keeps the focus entirely on the learning, with no digital distractions.

After your child's free assessment, their lead tutor builds a custom programme specifically for them. It is based on their current level, the specific gaps identified, and their individual learning style. The plan is aligned to the NZ Curriculum at the appropriate Year level and is reviewed and updated after each lesson based on progress. No two students have the same plan.

Yes. We match each student with their lead tutor at the assessment stage and that tutor works with them every session. Having a consistent relationship with a tutor who knows your child's strengths and struggles is one of the most important factors in learning progress.
There may be times where another tutor will take over a lesson, e.g. sickness, but the tutor will be brief and have a deep understand of each student they will work with.

Yes — completely. All TLC programmes are 100% aligned to the New Zealand Curriculum. Our worksheets and lesson plans are built to directly support what your child is covering in their current Year level at school, not a separate curriculum or methodology from overseas. This means what your child learns at TLC complements and reinforces what their classroom teacher is covering.

Yes. Our 1-on-1 tutoring option is particularly well-suited to students with learning differences, as the tutor can adapt pace, method, and presentation in real time based on the student's response. Our paper-based approach also removes the visual and cognitive demands of navigating a screen or app, which many students with learning differences find easier to process. Please mention any diagnosed learning differences when booking your assessment so we can ensure the right match.
